My family tree reaches back to a castle in Wales bearing my surname, Ragland, dating back to the 1300s with my 17th great-grandfather. One of the Sir Raglans was injured in the Battle of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War (1853-1856). To accommodate Raglan’s amputated arm, his tailor fashioned a different sleeve style.
I’m researching my family genealogy in memory of my father, who died of Alzheimer’s. I discovered that the castle in Wales is in ruins now. However, the Raglan sleeve lives on in baseball uniforms and knitting.
